10 Years of b12! Since 2015, the festival - founded by Johannes Wieland and Evangelos Poulinas - has created a dynamic space for artistic processes, bold experimentation, and creative exchange within an ever-growing community.
Held annually in three editions—spring, summer (main event), and fall - the b12 Festival takes place at DOCK 11 EDEN***** in Berlin, bringing together professional dancers and performers from around the world. At its core is the encouragement to take emotional and physical risks, both on and off stage.
The summer edition once again offers a diverse program of workshops, performances, and events. Around 80 renowned dance instructors and 30 choreographers share their expertise and present their work. In addition to intensive workshops and performance projects, there are discussion platforms, community events, and free jam sessions. A curated dance film series completes the festival program.
Workshops
Under the motto „research or die“, the b12 Festival is a dynamic laboratory for creative experimentation and a platform for innovative artistic formats. Bold ideas meet open structures: participants are encouraged to push boundaries, spark new impulses, and help redefine contemporary dance and performance art.
The multifaceted workshop program includes not only contemporary dance but also film- and text-based work, movement, acrobatics, theater, and experimental formats.
Performances & Events
The performance program takes place on the stage of DOCK 11 in Prenzlauer Berg and in the EDEN***** spaces in Pankow. Closely tied to the workshop program, it embodies b12’s core values: artistic exchange, a lived sense of community, and the joy of research!
sungrazers & spin
Selected workshop leaders present evening-length works, offering direct insight into their unique artistic signatures and the diversity of contemporary dance and performance art. „sungrazers“ unfolds in the classic stage setting, while „spin“ invites the audience into a 360-degree arena. We look forward to works by Sebastian Zuber, Ida Jolić, Evangelos Poulinas, Lukas Malkowski, and other artists.
critical mass
Each triple bill features 15-minute presentations. This format showcases short pieces or excerpts performed by b12 instructors and choreographers, followed by open discussions. There are no rules: rehearsal snippets, improvisations, or early-stage ideas—anything is possible.
asteroids
The performance projects are created in close collaboration between instructors and b12 participants. In 2025, projects will be led by Sebastian Zuber, Lali Ayguade, Maura Morales, Marion Sparber, Alan Fuentes Guerra, Dor Mamalia, Scott Jennings, Guy Shomroni, Maria Colusi, and Antony Hamilton.
spin drift
This format celebrates the artistic creation process itself. Not Ready Pieces by b12 instructors and choreographers are presented—raw sketches and bold drafts still in development.
free radicals
Workshop participants submit their own choreographies; these performances, followed by open discussions, foster dialogue between established and emerging voices in the field.
luminous flux
An evening of dance films in cooperation with the POOL - MOVEMENT ART FILM Festival Berlin. The program is divided into two parts, with a short intermission. Admission is free.
And beyond?
In addition to workshops and performances, b12 stands for get together! All dancers are warmly invited to the free no leader improv sessions.
