Nir de Volff / TOTAL BRUTAL, born in Tel Aviv. He trained as a dancer there and made his debut performing with local companies; among other things, he appeared as a guest dancer in Pina Bausch’s choreography “Viktor” at the Israeli Opera.
In 2000, he moved first to Amsterdam, then to Berlin in 2004. In 2007, he founded his own company, TOTAL BRUTAL. Since then, he has developed his own works with international artists and at various theatres both nationally and internationally, including the Schaubühne, HAU, Volksbühne, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Maxim Gorki Theater, Frankfurt Opera, DOCK 11 and sophiensaele, as well as at the Grand Theatre Groningen, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, ZIL Culture Centre Moscow, SESC Pinheiros in São Paulo, Bangkok National Centre for Dramatic Art, Stadttheater St. Pölten, Ponec Theatre in Prague, Teatro Alle Tese Venice, and Amphithéâtre de Gesù in Montréal.
The premiere of his piece, created in collaboration with director Falk Richter, took place in 2014 and became part of the repertoire at the Schaubühne. In 2016, he presented his solo project “Love & loneliness in the 21st century”. Since 2017, he has been collaborating with Syrian refugee dancers in the series “Come as you are”.
Nir de Volff is regularly invited by theatres and dance venues worldwide to lead workshops and masterclasses on his movement method, BBM – Breathing Bodies Movement.
