TMAOVLKE - language in motion - workshop

27 January 2024, 1-5 pm

As part of the lecture-performance Rewor(l)ding Genders, Charlie Fouchier shares the performative practices that were used to develop the artistic statement and material for the piece.

What words move in a moving body? How are thoughts and desires transformed into action? Can my physical sensations become the source of my words? And to what extent can my bodily sensibility colonise my speech? To what extent can I allow myself to feel corporeally when I reveal myself through words?

Words give me access to a rational understanding of myself. My body, on the other hand, activates through movements memories, emotions and desires that are more intimate and less speakable. Bringing words and movement together means bringing the conscious, social self into contact with a more sensitive, less familiar self.

The workshop begins with a gradual warm-up incorporating touch, voice, movement and spatial perception. It then moves on to individual and group exercises and improvisation scores involving speech and movement.

The workshop enables participants to (re)discover themselves in a performative, playful and interactive way, and to find greater freedom and creativity in their dance, in their performance practice and in their interactivity with others.
