Los Malos Hábitos / From Non-Existent Futures

The performances of these two works are presented as a double bill in collaboration with Plataforma Berlin, curated by Martha Hincapie Charry.

Los Malos Hábitos - Valeria Oviedo

The performance explores the embodiment of the heroic roles that women take living in an environment that challenges them harshly. The piece deals with this demigoddess’ suit that shrinks and tightens, threatening to leave them breathless. Through the fusion of dance, visual arts and ritual, „Los Malos Hábitos“ weaves a powerful narrative that delves into the inner conflicts and burdens women face conforming to societal expectations.

In a fable-like storytelling that fuses the folklore and mythology of the female archetype in Latin American culture as the main character and sends her on a search for herself. The joint composition of costume, rituals and movement create powerful visual statement onstage, that tap on the archetypal psyche and appeal to an intuitive ancestral wisdom. A duet that embodies the guttural experience of peeling off in the process of invoking our intrinsic and raw vital force.

From Non-Existent Futures - Valentina Wong

A choreographic solo exploration that takes as a departure point the embodiment of speculative and dystopian landscapes, operating through an ongoing relational process with different materials which allow the constant cycle of mutation and reconfiguration of the body.

In a semiotic chain of living paintings, this body is immersed, mobilized, and affected by the passage of time and deep contemplation, opening readings in a liminal space between the pictorial and the performative, evoking nuanced forms of presence and memories of a non-existent future.

The research is centered around open questions and themes such as the feeling of loss of the world, the end of times, and the attempt to decolonize futuristic imaginaries.

The audience will be invited to experience this performance accompanied by a suggested playlist, using their own mobile phones and headphones. The playlist will be available on various platforms and can be accessed via QR codes at the entrance. Each person can individually change, skip songs, or simply take their headphones off and embrace silence.

Advised: Bring your headphones.
