Based on Friedrich Schiller’s classic bourgeois novel „The Maid of Orléans“, this dance performance explores cultural-historical motifs shaped by the patriarchal gaze, reinterpreting them from a queer perspective.
Disobedient, tender and seductive, „Joan“ unfolds as a blend of embodied storytelling, spectacle and ritual. The performers explore how heroic and religious gestures can be reinterpreted and recontextualised.
“Joan” addresses the question of who shapes cultural narratives, which perspectives are expressed within them and which are excluded, and how stories can be opened up through plural perspectives.
*Note: At certain moments, visitors are invited to interact with the performance, if they want to.
