Lina Gómez's works are constantly changing constellations between human and non-human bodies, between the visible and the invisible. In the interplay of formal settings and the individual presence of different bodies, they speculate on the possibilities of connection on the basis of difference. In the process, the transformative forces that surround us, pass through us or emanate from us become tangible.
Gómez's approach to permanence, insistence and repetition shifts normative perceptions of time with the aim of opening up new worlds of imagination. Her signature style is also characterised by the combination of diverse movement traditions from different cultural contexts and a strong examination of the relationship between sound and body.
Born in Colombia, the choreographer and dancer studied dance and theatre in Sao Paulo and Berlin, where she now lives and works. Her group piece „A Passo di Mulo“ premiered at Tanzfabrik Berlin in 2018 and was performed there again the following year. Her work "Restraint" was presented at various venues in Europe and was part of the European dance platform „Aerowaves Twenty19“. Most recently, the further development of her group piece „Träumerei des Verschwindens“ (2022) and the highly acclaimed premiere of her latest work „Vagarosas“ (2023) were performed in front of a large audience at Radialsystem Berlin.
As a dancer and performer, Lina Gómez works with Tino Sehgal, Yoshiko Chuma, Edson Fernandes and Jorge Garcia, among others. The Goethe-Institut has enabled her to undertake research residencies in Chile, Uruguay, India, Turkey and Japan.
