Chris Ziegler

Chris Ziegler is a digital artist on stage and director. After teaching "Interactive Media" at Arizona State University (USA) 2013 - 2021 he is member of DOCKdigital Berlin. He returned working on dance and theater productions using VR, AR and AI, supported by VW Cultura Foundation, the German National Performing Arts Fund and others.

2016 - 2018 he was member of "European Theater Lab" a EU research project by the European Theater Convention (ETC), developing „Stage your City“, a participatory site specific digital theatre production at Théâtre de la Manufacture Nancy (France), Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (Germany), Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre Tbilisi (Georgia) and Det Norske Teatret Oslo (Norway).

He was a lecturer, researcher for SINLAB at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, the Choreographic Centre in Amsterdam ICKAmsterdam, AHK Amsterdam and Utrecht University. As Associate Artist in the EU dance network D.A.N.C.E (Dance Apprentices Across Europe) he developed ways to use digital tools to improve the artistic training for postgraduate dancers. D.A.N.C.E. founded by Frédéric Flamand, William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor and Angelin Preljocaj.

1994 - 1999 he was at the Centre for Art and New Media, ZKM Karlsruhe designing „Improvisation Technologies“, a choreographic teaching tool for choreographer Willian Forsythe of Frankfurt Ballet. Since 1999 he produces his own dance productions on stage. Also he works with renowned theatre directors and choreographers at theaters such as Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Wuppertal Opera, the Karlsruhe State Theatre, the Konzerttheater Bern and the Neue Oper Wien.

He received the first „Young Art and New Media“ Award in Munich and a Performing Arts Award Baden-Württemberg. He was nominated for the Monaco Dance Forum Award and won several design prices for his multimedia projects such as the New York I.D. Magazine Bronze Award and the Silver Award, the „New Voices New Visions“ Award New York - hosted by Laurie Anderson.
