Bilawa Ade Respati is an Indonesian musician and performer based in Berlin. He plays Javanese gamelan and guitar and composes music for both instruments. He experiments with electronic music and algorithmic music composition. In his works, he pursues a syncretic approach that draws on his diverse backgrounds: from engineering to performing arts, from European musical tradition to Javanese Karawitan art. His artistic interest lies in the dialectic between tradition and innovation, and the valorisation of traditional values in contemporary life.
