How can we stay open, attentive and responsive through the moving body?
In this workshop, choreographer and dancer Anne-Mareike Hess invites participants into her choreographic practice, with a particular focus on the research behind her new solo in the air.
The workshop unfolds as a guided journey, based on somatic practices, basic anatomical awareness and presence. Through improvisation and imagination, participants are invited to engage the body as a whole. The practice explores the relationship between movement, sensation and emotion, encouraging participants to listen closely to their bodies and discover different ways of moving, sensing and responding.
The workshop explores key themes from her performance:
- How can a body remain open and receptive in a world that can feel overwhelming?
- What happens when we slow down and give ourselves time to really sense what is there?
- Can movement become a way of reconnecting — with ourselves, with others and with our surroundings?
Rather than focusing on a particular movement vocabulary, Anne-Mareike works with physical states, qualities of attention and the body's capacity to shift between tension and release, precision and softness, control and letting go. Participants are encouraged to explore their own physicality and to approach movement as a space for perception, imagination and connection.
The workshop is open to dancers and anyone interested in movement, with no specific level of experience required.
