In THIS IS THE REAL THING (VR) Anna Nowicka continues her exploration of the spectatorial gaze and the audience's imaging, focusing on the cinematographic aspects of her practice.
THIS IS THE REAL THING (VR) originates in the choreographic work premiered in 2018 at Nowy Theatre in Warsaw, Poland. It attentively gazes at the movement material of This Is The Real Thing transforming it into a VR installation and a new stage performance. This new two-folded work continues the investigation of the audience’s gaze and imagination in focusing on the cinematic aspects of Anna Nowicka’s practice. In collaboration with filmmaker Stella Horta, Anna is moving away from capturing or shooting an image towards the possible tenderness of imaging and being present as a performer and observer. In the synchronicity of seeing and being seen, of what is tangible and imagined, a third, shared space unravels, where these dychotomies fall open.
