The 18th edition of the POOL - MOVEMENT ART FILM festival presents a selection of inspiring dance film productions and is a legendary meeting place for artists moving between disciplines at DOCK 11 / DOCK ART. After the screenings, everyone is invited to stay for a drink and a chat.

The festival, which has been running since 2007, focuses on films that create independent film choreographies from the intimate interplay of film and dance movement - critical reflections, resonances and imaginations using the body and movement on the screen. Curated through an established artistic network, a call for submissions and in collaboration with guest curators, the festival presents current artistic positions and perspectives on dance film over three evenings. The selected films, PEARLS 24, reflect the diversity of the genre and its themes.

This year, the historical format POOL Shine - New York Traces is dedicated to the filmic works of the intermedia artist and composer Phill Nilblock (1933 - 2024), which he created together with the choreographers Elaine Summers, Dana Reitz and Ann Danoff as well as the musicians Sun Ra, Max Neuhaus and Arthur Russell. The installation Threshold of Predictability (2015) with videos by media artist Katherine Liberovskaya and the minimalist-architectural sound composition Niblocks invites visitors to contemplate (un)predictability, temporality and its movement. A workshop with the artist Yoshiko Chuma offers the opportunity to explore the interface between dance and film in a practical way.
