POINT OF NO RETURN - Physical Introduction

In this workshop, Yeliz Pazar will share the methods and concepts she developed and applied during the research phase for the piece POINT OF NO RETURN.
The 90-minute workshop is aimed at *Waacking dancers who have already gained some initial experience with Waacking, would like to try it out in a stage context, and are interested in new choreographic and improvisational concepts.

*Waacking is a dance style that emerged in the 1970s disco era within the Afro-Latinx American LGBTQ✳ community in Los Angeles as a form of resistance against oppression stemming from racism, sexism, and homophobia.

POINT OF NO RETURN is a full-length piece featuring five dancers. It depicts the
moment that suddenly changes one’s entire life. There is no turning back, only the possibility of change—whether self-determined or driven by external influences. What marks the beginning of this transformative moment, and when does it end? A performative exploration of the moment that changes everything—a moment that means letting go of one’s old self, but also mourning a future life that will never be the same again.

As a powerful movement language of resistance, *Waacking merges with the dancers’ search for the “before” and “after” of the point of no return.
