The lockdown in November 2020 prevented the planned restaging of Cranky Bodies Dance Reset. Instead, the 12 ensemble members found themselves in four different countries, without being able to travel, let alone being able to perform in front of an an audience ...
Alternating between restaging and readaptation, the video work CRANKY BODIES DANCE RESET Extended is a continuation of the studio and stage work that started in 2017 with the premiere of Cranky Bodies Dance Reset and that consequently led to the founding of Cranky Bodies a/company in August 2020. The self directed improvisation sequences were created independently in Warsaw, Budapest, Montpellier and Berlin. The performers revisited and updated the material that has been collectively developed since 2017, supported by the costumes and props sent to them by mail. The “transitional sculptures” by set and costume designers Michiel Keuper and Martin Sieweke not only offer a formal and aesthetic framework, but also refer to the company's underlying understanding of an extended choreography.
The interweaving of dance, stage design, costume, music is taken up with cinematic means and through the editing of filmmaker Stella Horta, a video work is created that is by no means a substitute or careful conversion of the stage play, but thematically and formally-aesthetically an extension and continuation of the interdisciplinary ensemble work of Cranky Bodies a/company. A collage unfolds in which the actualisation of an interplay between the ensemble members, isolated from each other in their different places, nevertheless succeeds.
