Hillel Kogan (*1974) is a choreographer, dancer and teacher; he lives in Tel Aviv. His. His work has been recognised with several major awards in Israel and internationally.
As a dancer, he has performed with, amongst others, the Batsheva Ensemble, Compagnie Nomades (Switzerland) and the Gulbenkian Ballet (Portugal). He has been working as a freelance artist since 2005: his pieces have been performed hundreds of times worldwide – at major festivals and venues in Europe, the USA, Australia and beyond.
Kogan’s choreographic work spans contemporary dance, flamenco, breakdance and hip-hop, exploring the dialogue between different forms of movement and dance styles. Commissioned works have taken him to the Ballet du Capitole (France), the Bodhi Project (Austria) and the Companhia Nacional de Bailado (Portugal), amongst others. He has also created choreographies for opera and musicals.
He teaches Gaga and composition, was the long-standing rehearsal director of the Batsheva Ensemble and remains involved in its educational programmes to this day. Kogan writes regularly about dance and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies.
