A playful exploration of choreography, video games, care, and participation.

Life Is Strange, Choose Your Own combines live performance and video gaming, placing supporting characters in the spotlight. Meet the NPCs—non-player characters who inhabit video games. They wait, work, care for others, and keep their world running, yet they are never the heroes. What happens when we view the game from their perspective? On stage, the performers enter a video game as if it were a real world. Their movements incorporate loops, glitches, and the peculiar motions of digital figures, transforming game rules into dance.

Projections, live gameplay, sound, and DIY magic create a realm where the real and the virtual collide. The NPCs are bound by interdependence: their actions leave traces and forge unexpected connections. Repetition turns absurd, rules can break, and the background can become the story.

The video game was created in collaboration with Café Pink, a center for girls and young women in Schöneberg, opening up the medium to people who are rarely invited to help shape it. The game is available to play after the performance. Dates
