Directing Devised Performance Intensive

Dates:
Dates: Monday, February 2 – Friday, February 27, 2026 (4 weeks, Mon–Fri)

This February 2–27, 2026, a new kind of directing intensive launches in Berlin.

When Arthaus Berlin reshaped its curriculum earlier this year, its Directing Devised Performance program might have been lost. Instead, faculty who created the intensive came together to carry it forward as it was conceived - independent, artist-centered, and committed to creative risk and discovery.
Creating devised performance requires curiosity, courage, and a willingness to take risks. Within a supportive and collaborative environment, course participants experiment with both physical and conceptual approaches to making original work. Grounded in established techniques but aimed at individual discovery, the course offers practical tools for exploring presence, space, and time in a performance context. It also addresses the simple but profound challenge of how to start, how to move from an idea to a working concept, by offering dramaturgical pathways into the creative process. Through the practice of trial and error, artists will cultivate the confidence and freedom needed to discover and share their personal artistic voice.

Our philosophy
Keep learning. Keep growing.
Trust your intuition.
Create innovative work.
