Barre is designed as a full body warm-up, in addition to coordination, musicality, and texture of movement. Dancers are encouraged to fully engage with each exercise, while respecting the needs of their own dancing bodies on any given day. Though Anneliese grew up under the Royal Academy of Dance Certification system, in her professional life she was exposed to Vaganova and Cecchetti alike. This is felt in her approach to movement, which is a hybrid of styles within the classical ballet lexicon -- including George Balanchine at times. Anneliese spent years under David Howard's tutelage, and delivers classes with the same precision and care. In center practice, dancers are presented a variety of combinations that challenge and exalt, allowing for fluid and clear movement. Combinations are musical and phrasing is at times complex so that dancers can experiment outside their usual range. Petite Allegro is a particular love of Anneliese, who introduces longer combinations that promote enjoyment and fun! The atmosphere in class is encouraging and paced according to the needs of the day and the dancers in the room. Knowledge of anatomy, Rommett Floor Barre, Active-Isolated Stretch all contribute to injury prevention and a body-friendly, health-centered approach to classical ballet.
