Parsifal

Susanne Kennedy, Markus Selg, Yi-Chen Lin by Richard Wagner

Parsifal

Richard Wagner's final work plunges us into the heart of the Holy Grail community, which is mired in profound crisis. The Grail Knights await the "fool who knows through compassion" to redeem them—and recognize him in the young Parsifal. The cast of Wagner's monumental composition, described as a "stage consecration festival play," comprises well over a hundred performers, and he himself intended it to be a sacred act. German director Susanne Kennedy and visual artist Markus Selg translate this vision into the present, immersing the audience in a world of archaic and futuristic aesthetics, religious symbols, and AI-generated imagery. Inspired by Christian motifs, Buddhist teachings, and Hindu concepts, they create a ritual in search of spiritual realms beyond the veils of the digital and material world.
