We invite you to an afternoon of shared attention.
Grammars of Listening is Realtime Affairs’ inquiry into sonic reconnection. We approach listening as vibration and resonance - a sympathetic mode of sensing that moves through bodies, matter, and environments. Listening becomes a poetic practice of relating, of tending to what is often silenced.
Amid a disconnection from not only land and body but also the material realities of technological infrastructures, we explore listening as a form of re-attunement. A counter-gesture to extractive systems, it opens a space for post-extractivist, anti-colonial, and radically empathetic ways of ‘being with.’
With Tiara Roxanne and Pablo Torres Gomez, this iteration traces connections across land, memory, and sound, inviting a return to embodied knowledge and ecological entanglement.
A coming into relation of the listener and the listened-to.
Pablo Torres Gómez (b. Bogotá, 1994) is a researcher, sound artist, and anthropologist. His practice follows aqueous drifts, attending to the vibratory modes through which earthbound relations emerge. With(in) these modes, Pablo unsettles inherited figures of silence and the overheard in contexts of planetary extractivism, engaging vibratile agencies as threads for moistening planetary sensibility beyond landscape imaginaries of separability and permanence.
Dr. Tiara Roxanne is a Purépecha Mestiza scholar and performance artist whose work rethinks the ethics of AI through an anticolonial, eco-feminist, and cyberfeminist lens. They are currently a research fellow at Disruption Network Lab in Berlin. Their research critiques how digital technologies rely on the extraction of resources from Indigenous lands and examines how these infrastructures carry colonial legacies inscribed in land, bodies, and memory.
With Grammars of Listening we want to continue supporting initiatives that act where voices are silenced. We therefore ask for a donation at the entrance. More on this soon.
