CONTEMPORARY FOLKSTRANCE I Open Level
Véronique Langlott, Lo Höckner, Marc Carrera
CONTEMPORARY FOLKSTRANCE opens up a hybrid space between past and present, between techno club and folk dance, the culture of remembrance and our personal body memory. We follow the traces of forgotten dances, exploring figures, formations, dance steps, and choreographic patterns. Between choreographic structure and free improvisation, we get to know our own bodies. We inherit dance steps, remix them like DJs and play with composition tools for crafting a symphony of movement that connects past, present and future.
Based on Véronique’s long-term project series(G)localChoreographies, we explore the choreographic heritage of folk dances, techno music and long-forgotten choral chants.
Based on Lo’s research on rave dances, we jam with dance steps that developed to the beats of electronic music, explore the transformative potential of sound experiences and allow the power of the beat to travel through our bodies.
Based on Marc’s practice on physical theatre and butoh dance, we build the body grounds to develop an own folk dance to be shared and embodied by the collective body.
