Contemporary dance floorwork and acrobatics class:
In this class, we will dive deep into the world of floorwork, where you'll develop a profound connection with the floor, using a wide range of floorwork patterns, phrases, spirals, levers, and clear pathways. From mastering basic floor patterns to challenging advanced ones, including floor acrobatics and handstands, you'll expand your movement vocabulary and gain confidence in navigating the dance floor.
The class contains three parts:
The class is divided into four parts. The first part is a warmup that focuses on improving your strength, flexibility, and balance. These are the fundamental elements that will prepare you for the second part, which includes exercises to teach you acrobatic tricks while moving from one side of the studio to the other. The third part will put those tricks to the test as you learn a choreography that combines all the elements from the previous parts. We will end the class with a meditative cool down and go through a relaxing full-body stretch.
Highlights of what you’re learning:
Body-Gravity Relationship: Learn floorwork for seamless transitions between higher and lower levels. Flexibility and Relaxation: Relax your body, cultivate flexible joints and understand the importance of kinesthetic feedback for smooth floorwork in dance.
Multi-Level Exploration: Experience the flow of contemporary dance by exploring levels, textures, and dynamics impossible to achieve while standing. Embrace rolling, sliding, crawling, and sliding to create captivating sequences.
Rewire Your Brain: Treat the body part touching the floor as your "foot." This will empower you to feel more in control and confident in your movements.
Focus on Flexibility: Flexibility is key in mastering floorwork, and we will emphasize its development throughout the class.
