Time, the most precious and at the same time the most widespread resource we have at our disposal. Despite its dynamic and elusive nature, how can time be turned into an effective and concrete tool to create dances and compositions?
Starting from this question we will move towards improving our skills and body-mind states in the use of time within an action. Instant moment and passage through time, time frame within a dance phrase, linear and radial time will be some of the topics we touch during the seminar.
Time will be the main instrument used to enter into the flow of the constantly evolving present moment. The proposed exercises will focus on perception, deep listening to an action, spontaneity, imagination and poetry of movement. Participants will be accompanied during the lesson through a progressive path that starts from the simplicity of the individual act, to the complexity and richness of an instantly composing group.

Paolo Cingolani is an Italian dancer specialized in the art of improvisation and instant composition. His work is characterized by a specific training in intuition as the first tool to create dance and text in performance. His way of composing choreographies and characters on stage defines a clear poetry of time and space in the contemporary scenic arts. He mostly works as an independent artist, making performances and projects with other artists, dancers, musicians
and visual designers. In this freelance context, he has performed extensively throughout Europe (2005-2020). Since 2012, Paolo has been a member of Allen’s Line – the company of Julyen Hamilton. Allen’s Line has presented its productions in Germany, Belgium, France, Norway and Italy. As a teacher, he has developed his personal body’s technique resulting from the combination of Tai-Ji Qi Gong and the principles of contemporary dance. Since 2006 he has been teaching in schools, universities and festivals across Europe.
