“Sonic Body” is a parallel and collaborative workshop in between French-American Choreographer and dancer Christine Bonansea Saulut`s dance workshop and Korean visual artist and composer Byungseo Yoo`s sound workshop. This collective workshop will take place in Eden studio 150.1 on the 11th and 12th of Jan 2020. Christine and Byungseo have been working together for 1 year in Berlin. Their collaboration birth 1 first piece PNP – Parallel and Phase – showed as a work in progress at ZK/U in May 2019 and premiered at DOCK11 in August with 3 others dancers.

Christine Bonansea proposes a workshop that invites the dancers to practice improvisation responding to an energetic sensory environment generated by live music.
The morning will be comprised of warm-up exercises followed with series of improvisation scores for exploration of perception and movement pattern responding to the soundscape. The improvisation sessions will be accompanied by live music by the artist Byungseo Yoo and the invited musiciens.


Christine Bonansea founded Christine Bonansea Company in 2010. Defined by expressive, virtuosic movement, her work inhabits an experimental, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment.
Her pieces have been shown internationally in Danspace Project, the Judson Church (NY); YBCA, ODC Theater, SFIAF(CA); Atlantic Center for the Arts (FL); Earthdance (MA), Artscape (Toronto); Whenever Wherever Festival (Tokyo); The CND(Paris), at DOCK11 (Berlin), BIDAM 2018 (Busan), Spotlight USA (Bulgaria), AURA company (Kaunas and Vilnius).

She is supported by the Zellerbach Family Foundation, American Dance Abroad, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Theater Bay Area, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs with LMCC and sponsored by New York Live Arts.

Byungseo Yoo is going to conduct field recording sessions as well as live sound improvisation workshop.
The participants will do the field recording on their daily life basis.
The recording files will be cut and edited to make live improvisations, corresponds to the dancers(Christine`s working group) movement.

The focus of the sound workshop is making sound loops to make an extension, in order to work with the bodies in Live.
Byungseo Yoo will introduce the concept of ‘Absolute music’ by Steve Reich and sharing the knowledge and the techniques behind the concept.
