Generative Scribing
is a form of live visualization based on the principles of Theory U and was developed by Kelvy Bird at MIT's Presencing Institute. A scribe supports a group by translating their conversations into drawings and writing in real time. In Germany, the term 'graphic recording' is usually used for this. In generative scribing, we concentrate on the highest future potential of the group, on the unspoken that wants to emerge. We observe the atmosphere in the room, the dynamics and the emotions of the group and listen very carefully. By visualizing what we perceive, we help the group to grasp what is already there but has not yet been expressed. This creates a deeper understanding and a more holistic perspective.
The course

is limited to 12 participants: You will learn in a small group in direct contact with me
**Who is the course suitable for?
The aim of the course is to accompany groups, live, with Generative Scribing. So that we can get straight into generative practice, I assume that you have some basic knowledge of large-format visualization and documentation for groups.

Experienced graphic recorders who want to explore deeper levels of scribing
Facilitators who want to use visual tools to unlock the full potential of the groups they work with
Scribes who have already attended a course with Kelvy Bird or myself and want to refresh and develop their practice further
For beginners
there will be an online preparation call in January. Here I will teach you the most important basics for large-format live visualization on the wall. This will give you everything you need to get straight into generative scribing with us.
Who teaches?
Marie-Pascale Gafinen is an illustrator for sustainability topics. She has been working as a graphic recorder for 10 years. She has been practicing Generative Scribing since 2018 and has accompanied numerous sessions since then. Since 2021 she has been teaching the online courses 'Levels of Scribing' and 'Visual Sensemaking' together with Kelvy Bird.
Marie-Pascale has a great passion for working with groups, it is the part of her work that motivates her the most. She is passionate about creating a space where all students can flourish.
