Clown through Mask is a groundbreaking synthesis of First Nations (Native American) and European clown traditions, that draws on the power and mystery of masks to free all aspects of yourself to play.
Over nine intensive days, we will work with sound, colour, movement and exploring imaginative worlds, both with and without the red nose. Each participant will make and wear their own two unique masks, integrating them through clown work, improvisation and performances – and allowing each performer to go much further in ‘shining their light’ through the physicality and vision of the masks than they ever could without them.
This transformative method, based on the pioneering work of Richard Pochinko, offers a thorough, intelligent grounding in the art of clown, and how to apply its insights to other theatrical forms. Jonathan has been teaching Clown through Mask since 2005, and will draw on his other training from Jacques Lecoq, Philippe Gaulier and the Feldenkrais Method to supplement the work.
