Pilates

Tuesday 9-10 h

BASI pilates is a holistic training method that focuses on harmonizing the body-mind through guided movement patterns in relation to breath. It works with the deep muscles of the body and provides a centering practice through a slow physical approach. The key principles of Pilates are concentration, precision, flow and control. These aspects are constantly present in the class and offer a gateway into improved strength, flexibility and overall body-mind awareness and wellbeing. Through strengthening the deep muscles in our core we leave each session with enhanced posture and easier breathing to carry us through the rest of the day. The class welcomes all bodies and levels to start the day in a safer environment by grounding into one’s body through moving and breathing.

Thursday 19.15 h

This class is a Pilates class inspired by somatic techniques. We work with principles of BASI Pilates and include elements of somatics to bring us deeper into the body and practise. Somatics are used to softly arrive into the body-mind before entering the exercises from Pilates repertoire and to finish the session by taking time to slow down and integrate. The class welcomes all bodies and levels to practice pilates supported by somatics and go deep into the body-mind practice in a safer environment.

Johanna Ryynänen (she/her), originally from Finland, is a Pilates teacher and dance and performance artist based in Berlin. She completed BASI Pilates comprehensive teacher training program and graduated from the HZT Berlin (Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz) BA “Tanz, Kontext, Choreographie” in 2022. Before entering HZT she received her “Diploma in Bühnentanz” from Tanzakademie Balance1. Her pilates practice is informed and influenced by her experience with various dance and movement techniques she has encountered over the years. Pilates, for her, is a way of grounding into oneself through deep listening of the body that is in constant flux and working with its current state of being.
