Moved Sculpture | Forever Young

Choreographic Installation

"To give the impression of a movement that is by nature short-lived contradicts at first sight the idea of sculpture, an art of immutability and duration."
In contrast, dance is fleeting, is created and experienced in the moment, is always new and cannot be reproduced. You can't hold on to it. This speaks for dance in many ways and makes it so unique. But what if sculptures that come to life could tell us even more vividly about their "stories", simply because we give them more time, allowing them to move and relate. These moving sculptures could encourage us to pause, to stop, or to start moving, out of interest and because we want to learn more - that makes us active viewers. With this choreographic installation we want to dive deeper into the emotional worlds, thoughts and views of a Camille Claudel and add our own interpretations of sculptures. We want to ask the following questions: When are we old? How long are we young? Can we be young and old at the same time? How can dance help us find answers to these questions?

Where dance remains ephemeral, the art of sculpture and the possibilities of digitality can show us new spaces. Through the implementation with "augmented reality", new angles and perspectives can be taken by the viewer.

We use the possibility of recording our movements with the help of motion capture technology. This technology allows us to give life to our movements. The creativity of the dancers is recorded, enhanced in animation and design by the ideas of the Creative Technologist and Visual Developer. Staying close to the original, the sculptures are given life in post-production: they are carved out of stone, can move and change... tell their stories. The movements will always repeat themselves in the same way, but through the active role of the spectators, they perform the ever-changing and individual change of perspective in the way each and every one wants the sculpture and its world to become visible to them.
